A UNITED STRUGGLE 20 The organizing division of Efling played a significant part in the struggle for the collective agreement in the private sector in the beginning of 2019. The division’s employees inspired the union members, organized events to call attention to the wage dispute, managed the strike actions of workers in the hotel- and restau- rant sectors and went from one place to the other in the voting vehicle of Efling to help union members to exercise their democratic right to participate in the actions. With the support of the staff, union members ended up landing a historic collective agreement which was named The Quality of Life Agreement in the open labor market on April 3 rd of 2019. DETERMINATION TO PREVAIL AMONG CITY EMPLOYEES There was a good collaboration between the staff of the divisions in charge of organizing and public relations in the run-up to the wage dispute between Efling and It’s fair to say that difficult challenges have been a feature of the work of the organizing- and develop- ment division of Efling–union during the past operat- ing year. The staff of the department not only had an important part to play in the union’s struggle for a fair collective agreement for employees in the public and private sector but also took on the task of implement- ing wide ranging organizational changes as the depart- ment was created in the autumn of 2019. The organizing division of Efling was created with the aim of bringing about the empowerment of union members in the autumn of 2018. As the organizing and development department was created, the organ- izing division merged with the division of public rela- tions and education into one department with 10 staff members on September 2nd of 2019. The purpose of the change was to improve the synergy of organiza- tional and educational matters and public relations, thereby bringing about better results in the union’s wage negotiations and service of its members.
