Þar er eitt elsta mannvirki á Íslandi, Snorralaug. Snorrastofa var reist til minningar um Snorra Sturluson en hann er m.a. höfundar Snorra-Eddu. Flestar Íslendingasögur eru enda skráðar á Vesturlandi og svæðið því oft verið kallað Sögu- landið Vesturland. Í Reykholti eru einnig tvær kirkjur, gamla kirkjan sem er í umsjón Þjóðminjasafns Íslands og nýja kirkjan sem vígð var 28. júlí 1996. Close to Borgarsel one can find one of the most historic places in the country, Reykholt in Borgarfjörður. It has one of the oldest man-made structures in Iceland, Snorralaug. Snorrastofa was built in remembrance of Snorri Sturluson, who authored, among other works, Snorra-Edda. Most of the Icelandic Sagas are written in the West of Iceland and therefore the area has often been referred to as Sögulandið Vestur- land (The Land of the Sagas – The Western region). At Reykholt there are also two churches, the old church maintained by the National Museum of Iceland and the new church which was consecrated on July 28 th of 1996.
