24 HUMAN RESOURCES Efling is blessed with a great wealth of human resourc- es, employing 55 people full-time. A diverse group of employees of different backgrounds, knowledge and experience, comprises a chain in which each link is crucial to the success of the operation. The years of work-experience possessed by each of them spans a wide range – from 4 months to 25 years – and it’s fun to contemplate that the age difference between the old- est staff member and the youngest is 45 years. Many of our employees have been members of Efling or done comparable work, been union representatives at their previous workplaces or even had other commissions of trust within the labor movement. This is an especially important factor in maintaining the connection and the understanding of the experience of union members while working in the office. In the spring of 2019 a new vice-chairman, Agnieszka Ewa Ziólkowska, was elected to the board, taking The department of office and human resources assumed its present form in the fall of 2019 when the management of the union’s office underwent sig- nificant changes with a new organization chart and a reorganization of tasks. The tasks of the department include staffing, oversight of the office of Efling, com- puters and technical equipment, management of files, the employee cafeteria, oversight of the building at Guðrúnartún 1 in cooperation with the other building owners and participation in the so-called quality- and reform projects. The department of office and HR is one of the two so-called pillar departments, along with the department of management and therefore its work cuts across that of the four departments: the office of the chairman, the service department, the organ- izing and development department and the contract compliance department. The department provides support, assistance and service through regular, close cooperation with all the staff of the office.
